It depends on your starting point and competitive landscape. For stores starting from zero local presence in low-to-medium competition markets, Map Pack improvement is typically visible within 60–90 days and top 3 positions achievable within 4–6 months. For highly competitive markets (central London, central Sydney, major US cities) or stores starting with NAP inconsistencies and poor GBP profiles, expect 6–9 months to top 3 in the most competitive keywords. Why does each country need different citation platforms? +
Because Google evaluates citation authority in the context of each market. A citation on Yell.com — the UK’s equivalent of Yelp — carries significant weight for UK local rankings but is irrelevant for US rankings. Gelbe Seiten is authoritative in Germany but unknown elsewhere. True Local matters for Australian local SEO but not for Canadian. Google’s local algorithm is market-aware — it weights citations from authoritative local platforms in your specific country more than generic global directories. Building the same citations in every market is one of the most common mistakes we see from agencies that offer local SEO without market-specific expertise.

You can — but you’ll get far fewer of them.
